Kevin’s customized approach to evaluating each owner’s and each business’s unique needs and requirements always “begins with the end in mind” such that he makes certain he fully understands the owner’s short, medium AND long-term goals and objectives before attempting to solve problems and/or create solutions. As he states, “the financial reporting requirements for a mature, closely-held company that will ultimately be handed-down to a family heir will clearly be different than those required for an ambitious start-up company with IPO aspirations.”
Working closely with the business owner(s) and their key finance and operating personnel, Kevin will first listen intently to YOUR expressed business needs and challenges. Depending upon what issues YOU have identified and described, he will either immediately commence his work towards achieving the stated “business needs” and/or methodically working-through the perceived “challenges,” or, in the event further research, analysis and evaluation is required, he will continue working with you and your team towards the goal of achieving a clear and comprehensive understanding of what are the top-priority issues to be addressed and/or key improvements required to achieve the owner’s stipulated short, medium AND long-term goals and objectives.
Once agreement has been achieved on what the “top-priority issues” and/or “key improvements” for the business are, Kevin’s approach is to continue working closely with the company’s existing staff resources to methodically achieve their realization through continual “teaching, coaching, guiding and encouraging” as it is always his own expressed objective to leave the company’s existing staff resources fully-trained and capable of managing the new business process(es) and/or system(s.) Says he: “I see myself as being hired to “teach the existing accounting/finance staff how to fish” so that they can continue nourishing the wellness of the company long-after I’ve departed!”
